CPER IT2MP 2015-2020: State-Region Plan Contract "Technological Innovations, Modeling and Personalized Medicine"
The PhotoVivo platform brings together the technical resources used by CRAN staff to develop innovative medical devices. These devices make it possible to acquire "bio-optical" signals that the devices currently on the market do not allow to acquire. This is why the platform brings together 3 types of devices:
- Bench devices (laser, power meter, etc.) for the metrological characterization of the medical devices developed by CRAN,
- Reference medical devices used in clinical trials to demonstrate the innovation brought by the devices developed by CRAN compared to the existing ones,
- Devices developed by CRAN which, for some, are patented.
Supported:
- Emilie Péry (2007)
- Gilberto Diaz (2009)
- Marine Amouroux (2008)
- Honghui Liu (2009)
- Jean-Baptiste Tylcz (2013)
- Karima El Alaoui Lasmaili (2017)
- Prisca Rakotomanga (2018)

The equipment present on the PhotoVivo platform makes it possible to explore scientific issues related to several disciplines: STIC, Biology and Health.
Scientific issues related to STIC:
— Theoretical and experimental modeling of light interactions - biological tissues,
— 2D & 3D image registration and mosaicking,
— Multi-category classification of multidimensional data,
— Multi-modality quantitative mapping of optical properties,
— Inverse problem resolution and estimation of optical properties of biological tissues
— Modeling of tumor growth, feedback of light excitation and feedback of photobleaching during photodynamic treatment.
Issues related to biology and health:
— Quantitative identification of optical biomarkers of carcinogenesis
— Non-invasive fluorescence imaging of organs, tissues and/or whole body in rodents. Tissue biodistribution & tumor selectivity of nanoparticles / fluorescent probes
— Surgical contouring assistance for cutaneous carcinomas (tumor delineation)
— Tele-diagnosis of cutaneous wounds
The PhotoVivo platform brings together equipment for:
— Optical characterization of biological tissues by spectroscopy and imaging in the "visible" spectral band (including near ultraviolet and near infrared): reflectance and/or fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging (endogenous or exogenous);
— Irradiation of biological tissues by non-ionizing radiation, in particular for photodynamic therapy (wavelength of about 652 nm) or induction of skin cancers (wavelength of about 320 nm).
In order to regularly calibrate these optical devices, measurement and calibration devices are available on the platform: power meter, spectroradiometer, calibration lamps, etc.

Since 2022, the PhotoVivo platform has undertaken a process to improve the satisfaction of its users by certifying its activities according to the Infra+ reference framework:
The objective of the platform is to meet the needs and expectations of our users and collaborators by providing them with high-level scientific and technical services or support. In this context, the PhotoVivo platform has set up, since 2022, a Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with the INFRA+ reference framework to ensure the conformity of measurements and services. With the support of the Delegation for Support to Management and Quality (DAPEQ) of the University of Lorraine, the platform obtained recognition of its investment through the Infra+ label in November 2022, renewed in November 2024, for 2 years.
